Setting Up Your E-mail
These instructions show how to set up Microsoft Outlook to work with your new e-mail
account. It is focused on setting up Microsoft Outlook 2003, but the settings are
similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook.
First, Change The Password
You were provided with an E-mail address and Password. E-mail addresses have two
parts. The part before the @ symbol is the local part of
the address and represents you. The part after the @ symbol
is the domain or host name where the e-mail will be sent.

Before going into Outlook to setup your account, it's a smart idea to change the
password you were provided!
- In your browser, go to mail.yourdomainname.com - but replace
"yourdomainname.com" with YOUR Domain Name. For example, if your new email address
is One@SmartCookie.net, you would type mail.SmartCookie.net
into your browser.
- On the SmarterMail Login page, simply enter the e-mail address and password you
were provided.
- You may be asked to select your current Time Zone.
- Go to Settings > My Settings
- Fill in New Password and Confirm Password,
then click the SAVE button which is up above, just below
My Settings
NOTE: You have the option on this page, under the
Forwarding tab, to forward any e-mail sent to this new account over to
another e-mail account you have elsewhere. Some users who are comfortable using
their AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo or similar accounts think that they should forward all
the mail from this new account to one of those places, but that's not
usually a very good idea! It is much more professional for your customers, investors,
and peers to receive e-mail from you using your company's domain name.
Now what do I do?
- Some users prefer to use SmarterMail all the time, to access all their business
mail, and it does offer a number of helpful tools such as a Calendar, Contact List,
and Tasks. If this is your choice, you don't need to do anything else! Bookmark
your SmarterMail page and remember to check your mail regularly!
- Other users only use SmarterMail once in awhile, when they're away from their own
computer. All you have to do is remember how to get to your SmarterMail page!
- Still other users prefer the simplicity of having all of their mail delivered to
one place, such as Microsoft Outlook.
